1970 300SEL 6.3

Paul,

The VIN is 10901812001754. Thanks for the information. I love these old cars but they can be quite frustrating.

Chuck

Chuck, can you tell me the Vin of your car, so i check if your car is already in our registery ??

Chuck, I believe Paul is correct. You have an after market sunroof. My first 6.3, which I sadly destroyed, had just such. a sunroof. The car was a 1970, originally titled to a leasing company in Los Angeles as a California model. The switch was mounted below the dashboard. Otherwise, it appeared as original. Webasto was the manufacturer of both the original and this particular after market installation. Webasto still exists and provides OEM and after market products for a number of auto manufacturers. Search the web for this company and an installer near you. You may get help. I know of such an installer in Hayword, CA which I found on the web.

For the 6.3 there was ONLY an electric sunroof available. Manual or electric sunroof where the motor not is build in in the luggageroom beneatht the headshelf will be added aftermarket .... So info will be not available ....

I have been restoring my 1969 6.3 for several years. It has very nice original midnight blue 904 exterior and cream interior. I have experience dealing with the standard sling non tilt sunroof but apparently this old girl has the entire apparatus in the roof of the car. Yes, the motor, gearbox and cable are in the roof. I am unable to find any technical literature to learn about repairing it. It does not open. I do have the shop manual for 1969 w109 and it is not covered. Any information would be greatly appreciated 🤓
