MFI function?
Author Last Post

Matthew,

As far as your car still has it's original motor 100.981-12-001365 it has the high-compression motor and the FIP should have only one solenoid ....

For a quick scan you can check : see if the ignition has the vaccuum advance/retarder ....

Early pumps have just one solenoid that is for start enrichment as it moves only fuel rack in the pump keeping the air flap intact. Later pumps (US only) for cars with so called black boxes are two solenoid. The second additional solenoid is fuel shut-off to reduce consumption on car coasting.

600 #796 (1967 US version)

300SEL 6.3 #1285 (1969 EURO version)

300SEL 6.3 #5346 (1971 US version project)

1969 6.3, 109.018-12-001369

when I remember correct, then that solenoid has NO relation with the cold-start ....

for those cars with the american immission rules, that solenoid activates the fuel shutt off ... see the "black boxes"

which car ... which VIN ???

I recently had a cold start problem I needed to diagnose. Turns out the relay which switches power to the cold start valve on the back of each intake manifold was bad. No extra fuel delivery or “choke” function to start from cold.

My question is with the solenoid on the back of the MFI. I have a spare MFI and I removed that solenoid and pushed on the lever inside the MFI upon which this solenoid actuates. I can see that it advances the throttle similar to slightly pressing on the accelerator. Does anyone know if this is the only effect on the start function performed by this solenoid? And by that effect you shouldn’t touch the accelerator at start because the car is automatically performing this function?
