Paul:

Did you note that (finally) the Romanian state landaulet sold at RM Auction recently. It was sold for $300,000 US, which I believe is about half the original asking price.

That car was a full laundaulet (2/3 uncovered).

My LWB is now on US soil, awaiting US Customs approval.

Gerrett,

You are talking about 1854.
It was sold on RM-Auction febr 2003 for $ 378800. It had then 23000 Km. It was Tito's "second" Landaulet.
As I am informed well it is now in south Germany. Black with tan leather and came out the Rolf Meyer collection. It is a rare sixdoor presidential / long softtop.

I am glad your new LWB-'taxi' is arrived yet ..... [:o)]
When I come the next time to the States I know who to ring for a taxi [}:)].

But I tought it might be time to present the landaulets I collected, in a "one view"posting, since you have spare time to update the register. 1/3 of the landaulets are now identified, which is not a bad result at all, I believe.

BTW, when can we see this new LWB section ??? [;)]

Greetings to the "taxi-driver" [:p]

will
Hi Paul,

Congratulation for this great collection of pictures. Perhaps is Vin 894 with the white softtop the same like "ex-Idi-Amin"? Further I have a pic of another RHD Landaulet, which was delivered to an unknown africain state. I will send it to you.
Greetings Will
paul-NL
Hi Wll,

894 was from the president of Ivory Coast in Africa. So Idi Amin's is NOT 894. That are different cars.
We have to search on for that Amin's carVin.

BUT, I remember that once Mr van der Velde in Lokeren posted, he married in a Amin's Landaulet.......
Do I remember that correct ????
Then he is possible able to help us to find more about that Landaulet .....

I hope he will read this [:)] and would be willing to help us.

paul-NL
Hmmmmm,
I searched quick my database and found that picture .......

Note the "Wapen" on the thrunklid instead of the STAR.

Mark please help us ....

But this car seems to have a black softtop and red laether.
It could be Amin had also more Landaulets ......
Now we have sorted out 31 different Landaulets from 59 build.

paul-NL
And here an other one, probably the first longsofttop-car
(Must be around Vin 250 and in factory-ownership)

During the visit from Queen Elisabeth to Berlin in front of the Brandenburger Tor ....

That is number 32 from 59 build ....

paul-NL
As Pompidou 1971 visited Cameroon, there were also two Landaulets.
A Black one and a White one.

That counts on 34 .....

S class
Hi Paul,

earlier presidents of South Africa had a LWB laundalet. It is black, and now in the museum of Mercedes South Africa. Do you have VIN and photos? I can try to get some photos for you.

Do you have more photos of "2283 ex Africa"? It's in a very bad condition!

This topic is amazing!

Thanks for those pictures from the Shah's Landaulets, which are slightly better as what I had. I forgot to list them.

No, I have no additional pictures of that 2283 car yet. As far as I am informed, this car is in retauration at this moment. I haven't seen the car. The owner prommessed us more pictures as soon as the car is completly restaured and not eralier then that.
I am trying to get in contact with the new owner for about a year, but could not reach him yet. Probably because a wrong emailadress ......

In a very big book about Mercedes 600 appear a Landaulet belonged to a Malasian Sultan. It's blue (we can count 38 [:D]).

And we can count too Nasser's Landaulet and North Korea's Landaulet.

What are the pics that you have of the Shah's Landaulet? Can you post them please?

The first picture during the wedding from belgian prins Filippe, was the factory-Landaulet, which in earlier times was often hired by the german governement.
That is the same car which was used during the visit of the pope in the past with the highstanding plexiglas roof.

Shown just before the G-Wagen.

paul-NL
No count stays on 37.
Malaysian Landaulet is the JOHOR car as already listed.

I don't know and not have any picture from a Nassar Landaulet ... Known was he had a Pullmann but I never heard from a Landaulet.
Nord Korea is imho already presentetd by Ron Buntings pictures.

Hi Ron,
I saw that film on youtube also after Mike Trei put the link in this website.
But I could NOT catch a picture of that landaulet then. So your pictures were the first useable for me to store.
At this moment the stored pictures already overtook the 1,5 Gigabyte and there are only 18,5 % from the cars catched .....

It is a big job to find new ones, regsiter in a database and to archive-store those pictures of cars all correct. But it is with help from many sides and people interesting `stuff` .....

Great job, Paul.
I think I have somewhere the chassis of black ex Idi Amin landau. Will try to find it.
I read somewhere that the french white Landau was originally in Africa.... there was a report about this car on an old Motor klassik but I do not speak german [:(]
paul-NL
Hi Giovanni,

I have that article in digital form, and there is stated it was by Kienle at that time from publishing. So I just checked it.

In that article is stated that that white Landaulet belonged to the president of Sierra Leone (since 1972).
That car was used on his visit in France in 1980 and stayed in France and was then sold afterwards to an american owner (Chairman koreanian Electro-concern). He parked it by Kienle for services.
I must have over-read that part [:I]

So, now you have to find for us that Vin of Idi Amin's Landaulet[:p]

mbz63
Nice pics Paul. I remember Idi Amin was a '67, chassis should be 10xx, tomorrow I will start research in my archive....
Branthomme from France might have further landau VINs.

hi paul ,

i will try to find the vin on idi,s car , i now it was a early one , and righthand drive , the car was bought together with five other 600,s on a public auktion in paris in the early 80,s

i let you know when i find the vin

Hi Marc,
thank you very much for your cooperation.
It would be nice when you can get it.

Hi Paul,

the seller of that time told me, it was delivered to Sierra Leone, but I dont know, whether this is correct. When you look at the "sign" of the back door, you can recognize two lions(perhaps Sierra "Leone"??). If Sierra Leone was in former times an English colony would this declare the "RHD". I think this car was built in 1967.

Regards
Will
paul-NL
Hi Will,

as I study all those pictures, then it seems, that the Landaulet in which our "belgian Mark" is married could be the same car.
He writes us. it was a RHD Landaulet, what is fitting.
It shwos a short softtop, what is fitting.
It is black wit dark red leather, what is fitting.
It has that same (as far as I can see on the pictures) that same Wapon on the thrunklid instead of the silver Star, what is fitting.

So I strongly believe it IS the same car (or an exact double).

greetings and thank you for the many pictures. Still twelf identified cars and we have reached 20 % of all build cars.
That is an increadeble result. As we started we had never thought and hoped to reach soooooo far.

will
Hi Paul,

I compared the wapon and I found in "wikipedia" the wapon of Sierra leone; the same is fixed on the Landaulet.- I remember, that Idi Amin was the president of Uganda and this wapon is very different. So I think, this car can´t be an Idi-Amin-car.

Hi Paul,
here a pic of the yellow Landaulet owned by the Royal family of Thailand. In the backround a Pullman.

Hi Paul,
I am missing the red one which is part of the Linfox collection that is located in Melbourne.
The car was over here in Perth (Western Australia) on loan from Linfox for the annual "SHOW + SHINE" show some years ago.
It was reported to have belonged to Ringo Starr (Beatles). It was still equipped with some
sort of customized sound system of the 1970s.
Should be easy to obtain photos from Brian Tanti, the head of the Lindsay Fox restauration
department. Brian is a very approachable guy and could privide the VIN.
Also on the Nth. Korean government car: The ABC TV owns some footage of a military parade in Nth. Korea and the vehicle can be seen on the big plaza amongst marching
soldiers. ABC TV has shown this many times here in AUS.

Best regards

Walter
paul-NL
Hi Wilfried and Walter,

@ Will: Thanks for that picture. It was completly new to me. Can you find some more Info as the productionyear or other info or details ??? The white car is the background is no Pullman but a SWB. Somewhere else on this board is a picture from that SWBcar with two red trooperlights in the front published.

@ Walter.
That Ringo-car is a 6d-LWB but NO Landaulet, so it belongs not in this "Chapter". I have one good picture of that car but are in dubio about its Vin. Some auctiondescribtions mention the Vin as 1090 while other describtions mention 1091. The car had the Licensnumber PRE 732F. If you could get me additional pictures and Info about its correct vin I would be very Thankfull ....

Here's a couple of pictures of Ringo riding in the back.

Silver, Hmmm.
paul-NL
Hi Mike,
thanks for the pics.

but Silver ????

Ringo's 6d was maroon (dark bordeauxrot) not silver ....
Then it must be George Harrisson's car SWB, which was white or Silver ... (no real pict available (yet) ..... or Ringo must have had two 600's.

Greetings from Holland

At least the second picture is a different car, a SWB 600. The Beatles were famous for painting their cars different colors. John's Rolls went from black, to white, to psychedelic within about three years. John's 600 LWB went from white to black, and is now white again.

Just to confuse things further, look at this clip from about 1:20. You see Ringo's chauffeur driven silver 600 SWB, and George has a white SWB that he drove himself.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=XpkOmkYM-z8
paul-NL
Hi Mike,

George's white SWB had Licenseplate RWE 420E. So thats is definitly white now .... Is marked in my database.

Then we can conclude the Ringo must have two 600's. The Maroon LWB and a silver SWB. Last car I have no "data" yet ....

which is in australia nowadays....

And here again the white Bangkok-SWB, which seems to be a 1975 car, in the background from the "yellow" Landaulet.

will
Hi Paul,

sorry, its a SWB, you are right and the same as showed at your picture. More informations about the yellow Landaulet you can find in "mercedesenthusiast", an english journal printed November 08. I will read the article to get more news. If you want, you can order this magazine via internet under mercedesenthusiast.co.uk.

Hi all,

I must be confusing the Ringo car with a Landau owned by Bob Jane of Melbourne.

Cheers,

Walter
paul-NL
Hi Walter,

Lindsay Fox owns both, the silver landaulet and also the maroon 6d-LWB from Ringo Starr.
About the last car there is dubio over the correct Vin. The silver Landaulet is welknown and is the RHD-1942.

Greetings from Holland
will
Hi Paul,
there no other way than to pay by creditcard. Go to the website of mercedesenthusiast and open the side with the list of magazines since 2001 (it is called "back issues"). Search November 2008 and click "buy this issue". Now you have to pay by creditcard.
Greetings Wilfried.

P.S.: This a very interest english magazine, often with articles about 600`s.

Hi Will,

that is just the point, I do NOT have any creditcard .....
