CL Finds (Non-Member Cars)
MattR
Mods: If having a thread like this is verboten, nuke it and message me a slap on the wrist (I know some forums abhor such things).

Personally, I thought it might be nice to track/share M100 cars which pop up when someone spots one, especially since they're a bit rare. A single consolidated thread is less messy than a bunch of shares of CL/eBay/etc. cars, so I thought I'd post these here, and maybe someone will see one, buy one, and join us (or I'll find a full-fledged 6.9 to purchase).

Pains me to say this but unfortunately those are some very optimistic prices for 6.9's given the current market. Seems like the mojo from the 6.3 has skipped a generation and the W126's are now taking off, along with the R107s of course.

I really can't see R107's being worth much. They made far too many of them. If prices are rising, the market will flood and the price will fall. As well, they are not attractive in contrast to the 190SL/300SL or the Pagoda's, especially with those horrible US bumper bars!
Art
daantjie
Art, fair enough on the 107's but nice ones are fetching very good prices right now here in NA. Probably folks who hope they will become the next Pagoda but I agree the math does not work. I tend to think the bottom will drop out of the Pagoda market as well. Cannot see the current trend of 100k plus continuing too much longer.

I greatly love the looks of the C107, but the driving experience left a lot to be desired. That car would've shined with a manual and a more enthusiastic motor.

The White 300 SEL 6.3 is really tempting me, but I gotta move before I buy another car. Storage is expensive. :(

Wow those 6.9 parts cars are rough[xx(] always makes me sad to see them go to pot like that. Values are staying stubbornly low even with nice ones getting rare. Strange days my fellow Benz brothers[V]

Matt, that second listing in your last post is a standard 450sel. Look at the VIN....116-033-12-094654. The "033" tells us it's a long wheel base 450sel, and the last six digits, 094654, are a tell tale sign, too, as there weren't this many 6.9 cars made. I suppose someone could have put a 6.9 in a standard 450sel, but highly unlikely. Oh, the interior color is called Bamboo, never camel.
KipF
These two 6.9 cars are for sale in Louisiana. I first saw them 6 or 7 years ago when then were both in running/driving condition. Since then, the owner passed away and the cars have (literally) been put out to pasture. When I was last out there, we could not get either car to crank. Both have a fair amount of rust now and IMO are parts cars. The son would like to get $6,000 for both. If you'd like further info, please PM me and I can put you in touch with the son. I'm back and forth to Louisiana a fair amount and am willing to help if someone wants to save them.
The silver car was recently backed into by a tractor which put a sizable dent in the driver's door. It has original BBS wheels on it and the original bundts are long gone. There is a significant rust on this one, including the bottom of the doors.
The black car was originally silver. The owner added a Lorinser body kit and had it repainted black many years ago. It currently has some sort of hideous while wheels on it but the son told me the original bundts are there somewhere. He has a whole bunch of extra parts but no inventory list. It's a bit rusty, but seems to be in better shape than the silver car.
I believe both cars are Euro spec.

I kind of suspected it wasn't. The high prod-number and bumpers were the key give-aways, along with the lack of a photo of 6.9 badge, or under the hood, but I wanted to share it anyway just to be safe (since I haven't memorized the VIN decryption yet).

KipF: I can't see the pictures you shared... you should toss them in a photobucket or something, and then link us to it. :)

Don't forget that "elimination of type designation" was an option, and that a lot of 6.9 cars had no emblem plates on their deck lids from new. Just remember that a 6.9 will always start with "116.036". :) Though. I still wonder why the seller thinks it's a 6.9?

Nothing super new to see. Only two 6.9's I found for sale are previously posted, and still for sale at the same prices. I might need to write my own search function for Craigslist. The website I'm using is getting unreliable and a bit inconsistent.

Since it's too hot to work outside right now, I thought I'd take a break from yard work and Family to do another CL scan for cars. I've decided I'm not going to try and index eBay or Hemmings/etc cars: those are very easy to search. CL is a bit more effort to look up, so I'll keep doing so.

The silver 6.9 in Jonesboro has bamboo interior, not Tobacco. Tobacco leather is a very dark brown.

The burgundy 6.9 sold for around $12,000. The asking price was $10,000-$14,000 too high. Interior color is Bamboo, not tobacco.

The 1978 dark gray 6.9 is actually anthracite metallic with black leather. The leather looks gray because someone put the wrong cheap leather in the car. Mercedes only offered light gray leather, never dark. It's priced $2,000-$3,000 too high.

The light blue over blue 6.9 is actually gray blue metallic. It's a U.S. spec car with added on Euro headlights and wipers, and of course the Pent style wheels. If someone hadn't added these things, it would he a perfect original example. Even so, at $26,000 it's priced $10,000-$15,000 too high.

The green 1971 6.3 is an original color called Moss green metallic. Again, the interior is not tobacco brown. It's Cognac. Tobacco brown leather is a very dark brown. Cognac interiors are supposed to have burled walnut for the wood, but the dash has straight grained walnut. In light of the aforementioned, the price is about $6,000-$7,000 too high.

The 1968 gold colored 6.3 is actually Tunis Beige metallic. And, again, the interior is not tobacco. It's cognac. And also again, cognac interiors were to have burled walnut for the interior wood. This one also has straight grained walnut. Someone cheaped out on wood repair, it seems, both on this one and the green one. (notice on both cars that the wood on the doors is still burled walnut) It's priced $27,000-$22,500 too high.

The silver 600 SWB has been for sale for a few years now. There is a lot incorrect about the car cosmetically, and someone used cheap leather to recover the front seats. It's priced $105,000-$95,000 too high.....hence it having been for sale for so long.

The 1979 450sel 6.9 with 54,000 miles on it is suspect. The seller leaves the VIN out in the ad description, yet it's in one of the pictures? Anyway, I plugged the VIN into EPC. It's a late enough car that the data card was on file, and it turns out that the car was originally Milan Brown Metallic. So it's had a color change.

Again, there seems to be a lot of confusion on the names of interior colors. In this new list Matt has made there are only two cars that have tobacco interior. The rest are bamboo or Cognac. Remember that tobacco is a dark chocolate colored brown. Cognac and Bamboo are pretty much the colors the say they are.

For the 1970 6.3 with 41,000 miles on it, it's actually velour interior. Mohair was never an option for a W108/W109 car.

Most of these mistakes are as the sellers have listed them. My purpose here is to only bring to light what's right and what's wrong.

As far as prices go.....if all of these cars were in Australia where they pay triple and quadruple for everything, then they'd be spot on. Otherwise, all I can say is that the world is full of dreamers. ;)
