235/60-15 for 6.9?
raueda1
Seems like everybody making the 14" to 15" wheel upgrade on 6.9's goes to 225/65 or 225/60 15's. Yet I can't find a single reference to or even question about 235/60-15's. They're only fractionally bigger (diameter) than the OE 215/70-14's so miniscule speedo error. I must be missing something. Ride quality? Fender rubbing? Other? Thanks!

It's going to be nice this weekend. I'll check what size tires I'm running. I've 15" Penta's and Bundt's (the former being what I'm riding on currently).

The 225 width is already marginal on a 6.9. With 235 I'd expect rubbing would be a problem when turning at full lock, especially if you hit a bump in the process.

235 is simply too wide to fit properly on a 7 inch wide rim. 215 (or max 225) is more appropriate.

How come? Every tire size / rim size chart I've seen says 235/60-15's are good from 6.5-8.5" rims. Example: http://www.etmags.com/pdf_download_documents/tire_chart_2010.pdf

Lots of 'Vette and muscle car people apparently use 7" rims. It's easy to poke fun at them I guess, but they can't all be wrong. After all, the 6.9 really is a 70's muscle car.[:D][:D]

Is this some specific MB or 6.9 thing?

I would say W116 might look a bit funny also. That size suits better to a bigger car like W140.

Mercedes has some specks for the rim and tyre width I guess. 7" wheels came with 215 tyres in 560 models. For 16" wheels; 500E and R129 had 8" rims with 225 tyres. E420 W124 had 7,5" rims with 215 tyres.

But, my old Chevy Tahoe had 265/70 wheels on 7" rims... of course the appearance is different and the high sidewall makes it possible. MB G uses 265 tyres on 8" rims.

Sorry, missed your post... Ended up with Pirelli P600's in 235/60-15. They work great.
